Dates for your Diary

Monday 26th March- Stay and Play. More details to follow.

Are we there yet?

This term our topic is, 'Are we there yet?' We will be finding out about different kinds of transport, talking about road safety and looking at holiday destinations. We will start this term with an engage day where the classroom will become a plane and we will visit different holiday destinations.

Parent Stay and Play

At the end of each term we have a Stay and Play.

In February we had another successful Stay and Play. Children and parents enjoyed playing in the classroom, sharing the children's Learning Journeys and finding about e safety as part of e safety week.

Mathematics

This term we will continue to develop our addition and subtraction skills using objects to support us. We will also be focusing on recording using marks we can interpret. As part of this we will be investigating which is the most popular way to get to school. We will also be learning about 3D shapes and measuring height and weight.

You can help at home by:

Looking at the different shapes in the environment together. What shapes can you see? What do you know about the shape?
Talking about height. Who is the tallest in your house? Who is the shortest in your house? How could we find out?
Play games together and use marks to record the results.

Literacy

Read, Write, inc will continue this term as children learn more sounds and develop their skills to segment and blend words. We will also be developing children's writing skills including developing their letter formation during handwriting sessions and focusing on children using their phonics knowledge to write words and simple sentences. We will start the term by writing our own passports in preparation for our engage day. We will also be writing postcards, posters and lists.

You can help at home by:

Reading your child's reading book regularly with them at home and recording this in their purple reading record. Practice your child's words with them. Encourage your child to practise writing at home including writing inside cards and writing shopping lists.

Communication and Language

We will be focusing on listening to and responding to ideas expressed by others in conversation including within circle times. We will also be learning to express ourselves effectively, showing awareness of listeners' needs.

Expressive Arts and Design

This term children will have lots of opportunities to be creative! This term our inside role play area will be a plane, as chosen and created by the children. We will also have a travel agents in our outside area and other role play opportunities throughout the term. Children will also have regular art and music sessions. We will begin the term finding out about Chinese New Year and having a go at dragon dancing including making out own music for this.

Understanding the World

This term we will be finding out about different transport and different holiday destinations. We will be focusing on the similarities and differences of these. Children will be making their own ramps and investigating the materials to use to make their cars go further. Children will also be finding out about special books in RE and will be finding out about Chinese New Year and Easter.

Personal, Social and Emotional development
